ARTS & CRAFTS fee is $100 for residents, $120 for non-residents. Residents are persons living in, or owning property in, Orange County or Chapel Hill city limits. Persons living outside of Chapel Hill and Orange County are considered non-residents and are required to pay the non-resident fee.

Exhibitors are selected by a jury of arts professionals based upon the following criteria:

Eligibility

(a) Arts/Crafts must be designed/handcrafted by the exhibitor;

(b) Arts/Crafts is defined as paintings, drawings, woodcraft, pottery, basketry, photography, jewelry, stained glass, fabric art, tie dye, etc. based upon the North Carolina Arts Council’s arts/crafts grants descriptions;

(c) Work not eligible includes work that is primarily made from kits, molds, patterns, and manufactured, and/or imported items.

Quality of work

(a) Degree of competency and uniqueness as compared with other applicants; and

(b) Content of work as it represents a particular ethnicity or culture; and/or

(c) Work that shows the artist/craftsperson is developing his/her skill (i.e., student or primitive work).

INT’L FOOD fee is $250 for residents, $300 for non-residents. Residents are persons living in, or owning property in, Orange County or Chapel Hill city limits. Persons living outside of Chapel Hill and Orange County are considered non-residents and are required to pay the non-resident fee.

(Food Spaces are 10’x15’) Food vendors may apply for one space only.

Selection is based upon:

(a) Preference given to vendors whose business license and food prep site are located in Chapel Hill.

(b) Type of food described on the application.

(c) Food that represents a particular culture or ethnicity.

The goal of the selection process is to provide the fairgoer with a diverse menu of different types of foods (i.e., Italian, Chinese, Middle Eastern, Mexican, American, Southern, Specialty Drinks/Ices, etc.) The number of items offered by a vendor is not important. Food listed on the application must be the items sold at the Fair.

Quality of food is determined by the Orange County Health Department per their inquiries prior to the Fair and during their inspection on the day of the Fair. To validate the application, please have the Orange County Health Department sign your application. This indicates to us that you have received the guidelines and policies for Orange County. Use of a grill or open flame also requires a signature from the Chapel Hill Fire Department. Cooking grease must not be discarded at the Fair. Charcoal is not allowed. Food vendors will be limited to one 10’X15’ space. Food prices must be posted at the front of the space.

NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION fee is $85 resident, $100 non-resident. To participate in the spirit of the Fair, nonprofit organizations are urged to exhibit in one of the four categories, however, additional items and information may be distributed. Please follow the guidelines listed for each category. If your organization will be giving items away for free, you must inform us of such and list the items you will be giving away. If more nonprofit organizations apply by the deadline than space allows, a random drawing will be used to select organizations.

CHILDREN’S ACTIVITY fee is $85 resident, $100 non-resident. Individuals or groups may provide activities as simple as sidewalk chalk drawing, stickers, balloons, or as elaborate as dunking booths, make-and-take tables, moon walks, etc. Activities may be provided for free or for a fee. If free please list activities you will be giving away. Activities may be limited according to commercial content, safety considerations, or space considerations. Please describe activity completely to insure adequate space at the Fair.

ENTERTAINERS pay no fee. Entertainment is selected on the basis of quality and variety by an entertainment committee. Several venues are provided. Entertainers are assigned a venue by the committee based upon the type of performance and technical needs. PA systems/engineering and stages are provided at the stages. A full publicity campaign to subscribers in addition to performing for the 35,000 fairgoers provides great exposure in exchange for a forty-minute performance slot. TO BE CONSIDERED YOU ARE REQUIRED TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION, TECHNICAL INFORMATION, A PROMO PACKET, PHOTOS, AND AUDIO/VISUAL TAPE BY THE DEADLINE. We do not pay entertainers and for this reason they are not required to pay a fee.

A town ordinance prohibits dogs, snakes, animals of any kind at our Street Fairs.
To avoid a citation, please keep your dogs and other pets at home.
